EDITORIAL STANDARDS

At Jerry, we’re all about taking car ownership to a new level. We want to make owning a car simpler, more affordable, and less stressful. That’s why we’re committed to providing information that is accurate, unbiased, and easy to understand.

Our mission

It’s not easy to be a car owner. Shopping for both insurance and maintenance can be jargon-heavy and technical. The insurance industry hasn’t always made it easy to be an informed consumer. Limited information, confusing pricing and industry intransparency have left too many drivers overpaying, or underinsured, without even knowing it.

We’re here to change that. By providing insurance education, repair & maintenance expertise and automotive know-how, we’re empowering car owners to take control of their vehicles and make informed decisions. Whether you’re comparing car insurance quotes or figuring out why your check engine light is on, our content exists to give you a clear, honest answer, with no hidden agenda.

Our insights are grounded in real data, not guesswork. We draw on proprietary quote data, original research and trusted sources.

How we’re getting there

Our team of expert writers and editors, licensed agents and mechanics helps you make informed decisions about insurance and car ownership. We leverage our own proprietary data and advanced AI systems to accelerate our research, delivering the most up-to-date information and insights. Every article is then rigorously edited and reviewed by a human to ensure accuracy and trust.

Our Principles

DATA-DRIVEN

Our insights are grounded in real data, not guesswork. We draw on proprietary quote data from millions of Jerry customers, our own original research and surveys, and trusted sources like the Bureau of Labor Statistics, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Information Institute (III). When we cite a number, we tell you where it came from and how we got it – because data is only useful when you can trust it.

Here’s how we put data to work for our readers:

Proprietary quote data

When we reference average insurance costs, rate comparisons or pricing trends, we’re drawing from actual quotes that real Jerry customers have received from 50+ carrier partners, not theoretical estimates or outdated industry averages. To make sure our comparisons are apples-to-apples, we filter quotes to a standardized driver profile (same age range, driving history, coverage level, and other key variables) and clearly explain our methodology so you know exactly what the numbers represent.

Original research and surveys

We conduct our own surveys of American drivers to uncover trends in insurance affordability, consumer behavior and attitudes toward car ownership. Our annual State of the American Driver report draws on survey data from 1,000+ drivers across all age groups and regions, alongside internal research on insurance rates, inflation and industry trends. These insights also feed into our insurance comparison pages and educational guides, so information is easy to find regardless of what you’re looking for.

Transparent methodology

We don’t hide behind vague claims. When we publish rate data, we disclose the driver profiles, time periods, coverage levels and filters we used.

Data freshness

Because our data is refreshed on a regular basis (often weekly or even daily!), the numbers you see reflect current market conditions, not outdated snapshots.

ACCURACY

Insurance coverage, car maintenance, extended warranties – car ownership involves lots of complicated topics. We’re here to cut through the noise and clear up any confusion, with content that’s relentlessly researched by our writers and reviewed by licensed agents and editors to ensure it’s reliable, accurate and up-to-date.

Every article goes through a multi-step review process before it’s published:

Researched by specialized writers

Each piece is drafted by a writer with subject-matter expertise, whether that’s car insurance, home insurance, motorcycle coverage or vehicle maintenance.

Reviewed for accuracy

A second set of eyes, often a licensed insurance agent or subject-matter editor, checks every article for factual correctness, sourcing accuracy and completeness.

Verified against authoritative sources

We check claims using trusted sources including state insurance departments, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other government and industry organizations.

Refreshed regularly

Insurance regulations change. Rates shift. New laws take effect. We regularly refresh our rate data and actively monitor our content library and update articles to reflect the latest information, clearly noting when content and data was last reviewed and refreshed.

NEUTRALITY

We’re all about balanced, unbiased and helpful content. None of our articles are sponsored by advertisers or insurance companies, so you can trust the information we provide. As a comparison platform that works with 50+ carriers, Jerry has no reason to favor one insurer over another. Our job is to help you find the best fit for your situation.

Our editorial independence is non-negotiable:

No pay-for-play

We never accept payment in exchange for favorable reviews, rankings or recommendations. Our content team operates independently from our business partnerships.

No sponsored content disguised as editorial

If any content were to include a commercial relationship, we would disclose it clearly. Our guides, reviews and articles are written to serve readers, not advertisers.

Honest assessments

When we review insurance companies, we call out both strengths and weaknesses. We use a consistent rating methodology that factors in pricing, financial strength, consumer ratings, industry ratings and complaint data, and we explain how we arrived at our score.

Reader-first approach

Our editorial team’s goal is to provide the most useful, accurate information possible. That means recommending the right coverage for your situation, even when the answer isn’t “buy more.”

Our Editorial Process

Every piece of content on Jerry follows a structured workflow designed to ensure quality, accuracy and usefulness at every stage.

1. Research and planning

Before a single word is written, our team identifies the topic’s intent, key questions readers need answered and the most authoritative sources available. For much of our insurance content, this includes reviewing state regulations, carrier offerings and our proprietary quote data.

2. Writing

A specialized writer drafts the article using our editorial guidelines, which cover structure, tone, sourcing requirements and accessibility standards. Writers are expected to define technical terms and prioritize the reader’s needs over keyword stuffing.

3. Editorial review

Every article is reviewed by at least one editor for accuracy, completeness, readability and brand voice consistency. For insurance-specific content, a licensed insurance agent reviews regulatory claims and coverage details.

4. Fact-checking

Statistical claims, regulatory details and rate data are verified against primary sources. When we use Jerry’s proprietary data, we document the methodology, sample criteria and time period.

5. Publication and monitoring

After publication, content enters our monitoring cycle. We track regulatory changes, rate shifts and reader feedback to identify when articles need updating. Updated articles are clearly marked with the date of the most recent review.

6. Data refreshing

After publication, data continues to be actively maintained. We refresh rate tables, pricing data, and key statistics on a frequent basis (often weekly, and in some cases even daily) to ensure readers always see the most current figures available.

Our Sources

Insurance and car decisions have real financial consequences, so we hold our sourcing to a standard that reflects that. Here are the types of sources we rely on, in order of preference:

Primary and government sources:

State insurance department filings, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, NHTSA, FEMA, the Insurance Information Institute, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and other regulatory agencies.

Industry research:

JD Power ratings, AM Best financial strength ratings, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the National Automobile Dealers Association and other recognized industry organizations.

Jerry’s proprietary data:

Real insurance quotes from our platform, aggregated and filtered using transparent methodology. We always disclose driver profiles (all personal data is real but fully anonymized), coverage levels, time periods and sample criteria.

Original Jerry research:

Our own surveys and studies, conducted with nationally representative samples and clearly documented methodology.

We built Jerry to be the ally that car owners never had, and our content is an extension of that mission. If something on our site is unclear, inaccurate or out-of-date, we want to know about it.
